School bags caused children`s spinal problem
School bags are the leading cause of injury in school children. But most parents ignore this. Sometimes, parents assume that their children does not have a problem when carrying heavy bags because they are still young. Many parents do not realize that back pain and fatigue due to carrying heavy bags is a habit that is not good for the health of the spine.
Currently, spinal and orthopedic specialists have linked the relationship between heavy bag with spinal problems such as abnormal posture and back pain that occurs in children. Many experts recommend that parents should not let their children carry heavy bags over 10 percent of their body weight .
This means that if a child's weight 30 kg, then parents should not allowed their child to carry a heavy bag with a load of 3 kg or more. If the load exceeds it, the kids will modify his attitude to carry the bag.
Children accidentally arching their backs and lean forward to carry heavy loads. Without realizing it, this causes bad posture such as bending when they grow up. When they reach their adolescent stage, many young people are not able to maintain good posture.
Doctors also recommend that children, including teenagers should avoid carrying a heavy bag that rests on only one shoulder. Because of this habit makes teens leaning to one side to support the extra load. This habit will cause the spine to be asymmetric, causing back pain and tension in the shoulders and neck.
Sometimes, the kids like to lean forward when carrying a heavy bag. Such a posture would force children to breathe heavier and in turn puts more pressure on the lungs.
